If you wish to log in to your account but your email address has changed you must update your profile. Go to My Space / My Profile to correct it.
If you wish to change your affiliation, once you’ve made a new deposit with your new Institution, it will be proposed for the following deposits.
The affiliation on your deposit and the affiliation on the publication must be the same.
If there is an error in your affiliation, you can modify it from My space / My deposits. Select the deposit to modify and choose ‘Modify the metadata’.
As explained in the HAL homepage any deposit is definitive, no withdrawals will be made after the on-line posting of the publication because of the sustainability of our links.
HAL offers the sustainability of the submissions’ links by ensuring that URLs like : hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/
Nevertheless, the sustainability of the links which contain a file name hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/
However, if your article is due to be published later, we could apply an embargo on your file. This way the paper itself is not accessible but the bibliographic record remains on our website.
If your submission requires a correction you can ‘Modify the metadata’ or ‘Deposit a new version’ from the My space/My deposits menu.
Log in to your account and go to My space / My deposits. Select your deposit and choose ‘ Add a file’.
If you wish to add a new version to your deposit, you need to log in to your account and from My Space / My deposits select your deposit and choose “Deposit a new version”.
Your deposit will be checked by our moderation team and you will receive a confirmation email.
One document may contain several identifiers.
Type in the identifier, select the identifier type, click on the plus button.
By filling the Identifier field, you enable the automatic capture of the metadata associated to this identifier. The form will be filled by the metadata.
The moderation team can inform you about a problem on your deposit (your file cannot be read, affiliation issue, journal authorization…)
If you receive an email you need to log in to your account and from My Space / My deposits select your document and choose ‘Modify’. Modify your deposit and Save.
Your deposit will be checked again and you will be informed of its posting.
To submit a blog post or article, the type of document to choose is “Other Publications”: when you display the complete list of metadata, the “other type” field is proposed with a drop-down list. You can then select “Blog Article”.
The content of the article must be a written article. For example, congress announcements and seminar programs are not accepted.
To submit a book review / report, the type of document to choose is “Other publication”: when you display the complete list of metadata, the “other type” field is proposed with a drop-down list. You can then select “Book Review”.
If the book review has been published in a journal, you can add the title of the journal in the corresponding field.
In order to submit a simple bibliographic reference (without full-text) you only need to click on one of the following step while you make a new submission.
The first stage will be automatically validated and you just have to complete the metadata and the author(s) data.
Please make sure that your submission is complete and then click on “Upload”
Your bibliographic reference will be automatically online.
To be entitled to the arXiv transfer feature, you must fulfil the following conditions with your deposit : a file is mandatory, English abstract, specific domains, no arXiv identifier.
All LaTeX source files are to be deposited (do not forget the image files). It is recommended to use the LaTeX compilation button to check that HAL and arXiv have the necessary files. The maximum size per file is 3MB each and 10 MB total.
Please make sure that the .bbl file is included in your deposit. ArXiv does not accept .bib files, only .bbl.
The transfer feature appears at the last step of the deposit process. After the transfer, the deposit is then moderated by the arXiv teams.
The system retrieves the metadatas which are associated with the DOI in the CrossRef database.
It may be possible that this database supplied no metadata: either the identifier is erroneous, or the publisher does not have or not still informed metadatas.
Yes, you can select the classification pertaining to the discipline.
A JEL classification entry field is displayed if the field “”Humanities and Social Sciences/Economies and finances” or “Quantitative Finance” have been selected
An ACM classification entry field is displayed if the field “Computer Science” has been selected.
This may be for several reasons why your cited references do not appear : your file may have been digitized thus it can not be used.
The title on the HAL cover page is based on the chosen language (metadata : fulltext language). If you have described your title in multiple languages, the title will be the one corresponding to this metadata. You can modify this field in your deposit.
If you are the contributor of the paper, just log in to your account and go to My Space / My deposits select the deposit to modify and choose ‘Modify’.
If you are one of the co-author you can ‘claim property rights’ on the deposit before trying to modify the deposit. To do so, go to the deposit webpage and click on ‘claim property rights’ on the bottom of the page.
What do the different colors (author, journal, affiliation, ANR project, European project) stand for?
These metadata are related to a reference material :
- green : valid. Please select a valid item : for an affiliation or a journal the item has been verified. For an author : the IdHAL has been created and the item is the one chosen by the author.
- yellow : closed, no more available. You can select the item if it matches the metadata. The item has been verified and updated in the reference material. For an author the yellow item matches an author with IdHAL but is is not the item by default.
- red : to be validated.
A deposit can be shared by several users (by co-authors for instance).
A shared deposit is available in each user’s individual space, thus allowing them to view statistics, among other things. Ownership sharing is useful to avoid duplicate entries.
You can claim the property rights of a deposit directly in the deposit’s page.
Usually the process to moderate a paper lasts around a week. This period could be subjected to variation when we receive a large amount of submissions, especially as we check all those which own one or more files. See Check of the deposits
Your paper does not meet the criteria of the archive.
You must have received an email from the verification team with more details.
We do not accept : University Post-Viva dissertations, resumes, table of contents, biographies, list of references, newsletters.
IdHAL and CV
The IdHAL creation must remain unique, since it is associated to your account and it is used to create the CV’s URL
You can not change it.
Creating an IdHAL is not mandatory to submit your paper on HAL.
In order to create your IdHAL you need to have at least one paper available on HAL. This procedure will create your author form. Then you can associate it to your IdHAL.
The HAL CV automatically refers to the list of your publications. You can edit it from My Space / My CV add a title and a brief presentation.
Please make sure :
- that your text does not exceed the limit of 65 000 characters.
- that you did not copy/paste from Word. Use preferably a text editor to copy your presentation and then select the page layout style.
Select your language and click on ‘+’. You can choose which publications you want to appear as well as the widgets.
Don’t forget to save it.
The list of your publications will be automatically updated if you make a new deposit.
In order to remove a deposit from your CV, go to My Space / My IdHAL and then in ‘Author forms associated with your IdHAL’ click on the list icon ‘consult the documents associated with this author form’. The list of the publications from an author form will be shown. It is now possible to check your publications and uncheck those of similar names. Save your modifications.
Your CV will be updated on the next day.
The author form in some deposits may not be associated to your IdHAL.
You need to associate it. Go to My Space / My IdHAL and in ‘Author forms associated with your IdHAL’ click on ‘search author forms’, check the publications by using the list icon ‘consult the documents associated with this author form’ and then click on the ‘+’ button. Then Save.
Unfortunately we can’t control the referencing that search engines operate on HAL deposits.
The referencing requires varying lengths of time.
The origine of the problem is your web browser, more precisely the Flash Player plugin.
If your are using Goggle Chrome, you need to go to Settings / Content Settings / Flash and display “Ask first” for Flash.
If your are using Mozilla Firefox, you need to go to Add-Ons / Plugins. Then look for “Shockwave Flash” change “Never Activate” to “Always Activate”.
It is necessary to differentiate a simple bibliographic record from a bibliographic record with file (document).
When a file is available, an insert ‘File’ is visible on the right-hand side of the screen.
In order to find the fulltext document, you should check the fulltext box when you initiate your research.
